Welcome to Art!

Student Artists, welcome to Art I and Art II!
If the thought of drawing a portrait, painting a landscape, or creating a sculpture, is exciting to you, fantastic!  If they give you anxiety or scare you, do not be afraid.  We will tackle it all together as you acquire the skills to strengthen and sharpen your abilities to create, problem solve and innovate.  You will need to be prepared to work hard in this course and take advantage of what will surely be a memorable and special year for us all.  Students in this course should expect to draw and yes, even write daily, keeping in mind that I have high expectations for each of you and expect your best and no less.  You can achieve success in Art!  It begins now, with reviewing and becoming familiar with this syllabus and classroom expectations.

Classroom Procedures/Behavior Expectations

•                Be on time and be prepared.  “On time” means in your seat and ready to begin when the bell rings.  When entering class, note the class objectives, turn in homework in the appropriate labeled folder/tray and begin your warm-up activity.  You are expected to be in your seat and busy when the bell rings.

•                As human beings we all have a right to be treated with “Dignity and Respect,” and you are expected to treat yourself and others as such.  Respect your right as well as your classmate’s right to learn. Respect your and others right to exist in a state of dignity.  Disruptive, demeaning or rude behavior will not be tolerated.

•                Remember all school policies are in effect.  All school policies as outlined in the Centennial High School Student Handbook will be enforced.  You are responsible for reviewing and following school policies.

•                Your agenda book will be used to record homework assignments.  It is also required if you need to leave the room for any reason.

•                Remain in your seat until you are dismissed by the instructor when (or after) the bell rings.

•                Everyone makes mistakes.  (Welcome to humanity…..)  That said, consequences for “mistakes” related to discipline will be as follows:

1.      Verbal reminder

2.      Phone call, to parents or guardian

3.      Detention

4.      Office Referral

*Please note; severe disruptive behavior such as insubordination, aggression, discriminatory remarks, will result in immediate office referral.
